Mom and Dad decided to put Jack down today.

It sounded like he'd fallen a day or two before and was unable to get up. I've had a hard few hours mourning and remembering him. And in doing so I'm humbled by God's providence in how he's blessed us with the perfect dog for the season of life we were in. Jack was an excellent dog. He'll be greatly missed.

It's an honor to take these animals into our homes and into our lives as faithful companions.

Kanin Asay won bull riding at the National Final Rodeo! I have to admit, i don't know him hardly at all. he's a second cousin or something, and i really only remember him as a little guy at church. but i'm proud of him none the less. it's pretty awesome to see someone from my home town doing so well.

Big Wednesday - Rediscovered Article

so i just googled my name to see what came up, and found an article from the Daily Breeze after Big Wednesday. which was just a few days before Christmas in 2005. there had been several huge northern storms that had pounded the coast for nearly a month strait. we were all pretty well surfed out when it happened. it was that once in a decade combining of several storms that pushed the surf from the normal 3-5 ft. to the 15+ range. HUGE. i was so sick and should definitely not have been in the water, but i knew it was one of the few times in my life i'd have a chance to ride triple overhead surf. so here's a picture and the article.

Seventeen-year-old Dylan Thomas watched the ferocious waves at Redondo Beach for 2 1/2 hours today before he collected enough strength to venture into the water.

"Oh my God," he said with a big smile. "It's ridiculous out there!"

Thomas was among a dozen or so young surfers brave enough to weather a battering of 10-to-20-foot waves lashing the coast near the Redondo Beach jetty, some of the biggest seen in the South Bay in years.

Jeff Vincent, 24, of Redondo Beach, called it the day surfers had been waiting for.

"The moment you are on the top of the wave, when you are stuck up there, you get so giddy -- until you get blasted and dragged under," he said, adding, "Itˆs worth getting blasted."

Weather forecasters predicted the mighty display of Mother Nature will continue Thursday, although not quite as potent as today's.

The waves were triggered by a series of strong storms moving from the central Pacific Ocean to the Pacific Northwest, said Ken Clark, a meteorologist for AccuWeather Inc.

The waves likely peaked at midday today, resulting in a number of minor injuries, a series of rescues, and flooding. Police closed the Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach piers, but neither appeared to have suffered damage.

Police also closed the bike path at 45th Street in Manhattan Beach and the parking area at Grand Avenue in El Segundo because of flooding.

South Bay lifeguards rescued a surfer who lost his board off Rocky Point Road in Rancho Palos Verdes and couldn't return to shore himself. Three surfers encountered trouble in the 2800 block of Paseo del Mar in Palos Verdes Estates, but managed to make it safely ashore without assistance, county Lifeguard Capt. Mike Cunningham said.

In Hermosa Beach, a Boogie Boarder twisted his knee near Avenue H, and in San Pedro, lifeguards used a Jet Ski to rescue a surfer unable to return to the beach.

At El Porto, firefighters treated five people hit by a wave as they walked on the bike path. One woman who possibly broke her ankle was taken to a hospital, firefighters said.

In other areas, waves crashed near beachfront homes in Malibu, damaged the pier in Venice and pushed small boats ashore near Marina del Rey.

Orange County officials also closed their piers. In Seal Beach, a surfer broke a leg.

"It's very dangerous," Cunningham said. "High surf, very strong rip currents, and there's a lot of current moving around. It's for experts only the next couple of days."

Despite the dangers, dozens of surfers rode the rough surf off San Pedro, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Porto and El Segundo.

"It's like a washing machine," said Matt Meistrell, 23, of Redondo Beach after riding the waves and foam near the Redondo Beach breakwall.

Just paddling out was taxing enough, surfers said. Police disallowed anyone from walking onto the breakwall to jump in.

Levi Asay, 26, of Torrance said he was confident in his abilities as he pulled on his wet suit. His wife of three months, Jennissa, carried a camera.

"I'm here to take pictures and scream at the lifeguards if necessary," she said.

After an hour in the water, Asay said he was lucky to be alive.

"I only caught one wave, but man oh man, one was all I needed," he said. "I paddled back out and on the way got caught by a freak set and my leash broke. I struggled back in, which was about all I could do just to survive."

Asay said his new bride was pleased to see him return.

"She was very happy I came back in one piece," he said.

Beachgoers also stood on the sand, amazed at the ocean's wrath. "Whoa!" was the most common word heard as the breakers pounded the shore.

"This is Mother Nature," said Bert Collins of Redondo Beach. "I love it."

The World Series starts tomorrow. We tried hard to get tickets, but they had a major snafu, and got hacked. I heard the rockies website had 8.5 million hits in the first 90 minutes on monday morning. i think 10,000 of that was just me. i had the ticket page open, but couldn't get it to process because their server was so overloaded. it was pretty sad. they would have been game 4 in the club level. oh well. today was the same story, i had game 5 tickets, but couldn't get the page to go through. so that sucks. but i'm still excited the home team is playing in the World Series. pretty cool. so cheer for the rockchucks.

Jennissa's Dad took us to the NLDS. it was a LOT of fun. we had really great seats on the first base line in the middle section . . . behind the drunk whistling mexicans. it was fun, especially because the phillies got beat. after the game it was pretty funny Sid (Larry's girlfriend) and he walked all over and picked up cups. Jennissa helped but I just laughed at them. hooray for the Rockheads, if they get by the diamondbacks, then they are in the world series. pretty cool.

we're mostly just working. lots to do on the house, lots to do for work (for me anyway). jennissa's grandma is coming into town tonight. my parents are coming down next week to help us with house stuff again. been recaulking the bathroom, changing light bulbs, spraying wasps, swatting flies, staining the deck, cleaning the garage, making dinner, making messes, cleaning up messes, cleaning up the mess we made by cleaning up the other mess . . . you know, that kind of stuff. and for the work i get paid for . . . editing, doing a few ppts, making brochures, updating websites, trying to get taxes taken care of. you know. lots of exciting stuff.

Well, I had another birthday. It was really great. So now I'm older. 28. But this time I have a new dewalt drill. So I can drill holes in the new house. I need to find my long lost bits however. The real news is the dancing girls. The dance studio wanted to throw a little surprise party for Jennissa, and we all agreed that Wednesday was good. And then we all realiszed it was my birthday. But I told them to come over anyway. So I had an unusually large birthday party. It was fun, we cooked hamburgers and they brought a cake. So thanks to everybody.

It's been a long time coming, and I know Jennissa was wishing this day would have come two or three months ago, but I finally cut my hair. It's REAL short, I have a mohawk now. Anyway, the real point is that I'd waiting a long time to cut my hair so that I could donate it to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths in memory of Alese Coco. Be sure to remember Alese's family and friends in your prayers as she is so greatly missed.

Parents Are The COOLEST

My parents came down this weekend and worked like slaves. They are so great. Dad brought down the trailer full of old tools and a bunch of my stuff. We've got a table saw, an air compressor, an impact wrench, a soldering iron . . . lots and lots of good stuff. Dad and I got the deck sealed up and he oiled the fence (which looks a million times better). Mom and Jennissa did lots of cutting on the yard. I knocked back the weeds on the back side of the fence (getting ready for next year's garden). We're exhausted. Even Jack. But Phil was still pretty onery, so we should try to get more work out of him next time.

Well, we got the house. All the papers are signed. We've got an assortment of keys. And ALL our crap is at the new house. It's pretty cool. On Saturday, two of Jennissa's WONDERFUL BEAUTIFUL SWEET dancers came over and helped us out. Jessie Kay and Tonya were so awesome and set up the WHOLE kitchen. We are so grateful for them. Then Tonya's amazing parents brought us dinner. Wow, Colorado is pretty cool. There are REAL people here.
Larry and Lucas and Cheyeanne came up and helped us with the last of the heavy stuff. I'm really wishing we would have taken some pictures, because we put so much huge stuff on top of the Jetta. They brought the expedidion and we put a lot of stuff in it. It would have been 20 more trips with the car. But it's all at the house now.

The Appraisal . . .

well the appraisal game through. HALLELUJAH!! with $4000 of breathing room. God is so good to us. Jennissa, being all smart and wonderful, really warmed up to the lady who did the appraisal and i think that definitely helped. when the appraiser was finished, jennissa tried to shake her hand, but got a big hug instead. so now it's a matter of actually processing the loan, and cleaning up some other paperwork. then we sign the final contract. and then i think we might actually be homeowners. YIPEE!! we've been waiting a LONG time, so it's really exciting to have it so close.

Another exciting piece of our life looks like it's falling into place. Jennissa danced in the parade with her studio, and my mom and i went to watch and take pictures. we were waiting for the parade to finish, and i noticed a guy with a stunning red retriever. they stopped right in front of us so i asked him where the dog was from, and he told me a breeder in LOVELL, WY!! it's 14 miles from the house in Powell! i looked them up and they have 4 litters coming in september, so we might have our furry little baby by november!! pretty exciting.

WE GOT IT!!

there is BIG BIG news for LNJ. WE GOT A HOUSE!!! we have been looking since we got to fort collins and found one that we kind of liked. we didn't even ask to see it for a while, but the more houses we looked at, the better this one became. so we finally called our realtors and went to look at it. we loved it, but it already had an offer accepted on it. the previous offer had some contingencies on it, so that gave us the opportunity to make an offer of our own. it was accepted, but we had to wait 72 hours for the first offer to fall through. and it just did. God has been unreal for us in this move. He moves mountains for us. it's really awesome and we are both so humbled and happy. the new site will be up soon an i'll post pictures. thanks for praying. pray that we can get all the way through escrow without any snags.

Well we're in Loveland now. it's great. God is great. He blesses us in so many incredible ways. i got a call the other day and a job offer to do some editing. a girl who jennissa is teaching dance to is married to Eric, my new boss. he's working on a show called "The Next Internet Millionaire". it's great. i've got work again. God is so good. just like havoc, it's really great people, awesome work. i'm so blessed. but you have to go watch the show. there will be 14 episodes. i missed doing any signifigant editing on the first one, but i did do the last 30 seconds (the "next week" segment). hopefully we'll be able to air them weekly. go check it out.

i have been working on a site for alese coco alese coco, a 23 year old fighting hodgkin's disease. she passed away in early may due to complications related to her treatment. alese was an incredible girl and her family is a true testament of Christian faith. jennissa has been so moved knowing that alese had lost her hair (again) and had been wearing a wig, that she decided to donate some of her beautiful red tresses. it was traumatic, but i am so proud of her for being willing to humble herself in order to love someone she barely knows.

our life just went into hyperdrive. we're having a trunk sale this weekend at the dance studio. jennissa has used part of her dance studio savings and bought a bunch of little dance clothes that we are going to try to sell in front of the studio. it's pretty exciting and a big gamble for us, but it's really awesome to finally move on a dream. it's fun for us to just be working with each other, so hopefully we will have a good response and be able to make some money on top of what we have invested. i'm proud of jennissa. she's worked really hard and has put together some REALLY cute outfits. i'll try to take some pictures this weekend and post them. someday. anyway, pray for us in our endeavors. and if you are close, come buy something. or call us up an we'll ship it to you.

in other news, i'm having a hard time with some of the podcasting stuff. i haven't gotten to actually contact godaddy yet, but i will soon. hopefully that will eliminate some of the file type problems and the videos will automaticaly start posting in itunes an the other subscribing services.

here's another tasty tidbit for you all. i just made a favicon for the site. WHAT!!?? you don't know what a favicon is? well. look by the web address in your browser. see the little red icon. yippee right. a whole whopping 16x16 pixels. but that makes us 32sq pixels cooler than you. haha. hope it works. it should switch between a white background and a black one. at least for now. it might change soon. be sure to empty your cache or clear cookies or whatever. check back often.
